Vanitas stands for emptiness, uselessness or worthlessness. It is a reference to the earthly goods and activities that they are transient and worthless. This impermanence is a theme that often occurred in funerary art in the 15th century. Later it is also used in still lifes to remind the viewers of the transience of life.
This series of photographs is a modern interpretation. The seven images together form one work of art.
